Derya Kaya
Derya Kaya was born in Istanbul in 1998. She graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Kocaeli University in 2021 and began her master's degree in the same department in 2022. While continuing her academic career with dedication, she took tezhip (Islamic illumination) courses at the İSMEK Turkish Islamic Arts Vocational School under the guidance of Kadriye Bayraktar between 2017 and 2019. Her interest in traditional Turkish arts, particularly tezhip, grew stronger as she developed an admiration for its deep aesthetics and historical roots.
Recognizing that tezhip holds an important place in traditional Turkish arts due to its emphasis on elegance and attention to detail, Kaya began to develop her own unique style while mastering the technical aspects of the art. Dedicated to both her academic studies and artistic practice, she prioritizes finding time for artistic development alongside her professional and educational responsibilities.
Since 2020, Kaya has continued her education and tezhip work at the Perdah Art Studio with Kadriye Bayraktar. With the knowledge and skills she has gained, Kaya aims to contribute to various projects and combines traditional art with a modern perspective in her work.
